Welcome back to 1000 objects, my Kondo-esque quest to rid myself of 1000 objects this year. The rules: had to own it before 2023, I have to try and tell its story and I must say thank you and goodbye as Ms. Kondo suggested (even though she has kind of given up).
These had been sitting around in my house. I had gotten these as a “hand me down” from a friend who already had a different brand set up and suffered from an over exuberant accumulation of electronics. I also suffer from this but took them anyway. At the time my router seemed great, so the little nodes sat cradled in their very nicely constructed box. I think the box was designed for unboxing, as it really was impressive.
Anyway, when COVID-19 lockdowns came into effect, I found myself at home with my wife and two adult children. And we needed much more internet. Computers shifted as more computers came home from work and we had to spread out to keep from interrupting each other.
Suddenly I needed much better coverage, especially downstairs as there were always three Teams or Zooms going on at any given time. It was a couple of weeks before I remembered having this and I set it up one weekend. And miraculously, it just worked. Good solid speeds to every corner of the house. Harmony reigned.
A couple years passed and I updated my modem and cable boxes. I tried their little WiFi extenders, which SUCKED! It was like sipping internet through a small straw. I unplugged all those and the WiFi 6 etc. just worked. I was surprised I even had devices that supported it.
Home internet harmony continued, so I never set up the mesh again. So thank you Linksys nodes, you gave us good internet when you were needed. Unfortunately the rental router eventually surpassed your performance and it is time to move on.
